Lyrics

Watch Me Fly - Copyright March 2015 by Carolyn Anele
Key D

Shadows on the wall are fading
Sunshine lights up my room
I’m feeling like myself more and more today
Open the window, open the door

My body is tired of drifting
Blue sky is calling to me
Open the window, just to be sure
Won’t you open the door and watch me fly away

Instrumental Bridge7

My body is tired of drifting
Blue sky is calling today
Open the window, just to be sure
Won’t you open the door and watch me fly away
Open the window, just to be sure
Won’t you open the door and watch me fly away

Coal Dust Sandwiches - Copyright February 2013, Lyrics by Carolyn Anele and Howard Brown, Music by Carolyn Anele

V.1       I’m eatin’ coal dust sandwiches
With my back against the wall
Tired of the stupid ass fire boss
            And this load I haul

Down in the mine they’re drilling
And I’m packing the timber that holds
            This mountain of hardship
            Looking for diamonds in coal

CH      It’s been a long time coming
It’s been a long time you know
A hundred years of blood, sweat and tears
Livin’ my life in a hole
            Looking for diamonds in coal

V.2      Down in the Legion we’re drinking
Me and some good old boys
            Talkin’ whiskey and women
Making a hell of a noise

            Then I get thinking
            About her back home
            And this making a living
            Is all I know

CH      It’s been a long time coming
It’s been a long time you know
A hundred years of blood, sweat and tears
Living my life in a hole…

CH:     It’s been a long time coming
It’s been a long time you know
A wise man said, "you’re better off dead
Then spending your life in a hole"
            Looking for diamonds in coal
            Looking for diamonds in coal

End     I’m eatin’ coal dust sandwiches
With my back against the wall

Where Birds Sing - copyright 2012 by Carolyn Anele

The song 'Where Birds Sing' is a Tribute to my relationship with
my home and family...

V1  There’s a garden outside my love where grass grows tall
With trees all around flowers cover the ground
You hear the waves and the seagulls call
So come take my hand my love let’s go for a walk
I know you so well your eyes they tell
Me things we don’t have to talk

Ch  And do you know you are my everything
       You are my best friend
Here where birds sing I have no regrets
Let’s stay here till the sun goes down
And if it all were to end
Here where birds sing with you I say amen

Bridge: instrumental

V.2  Well the years have gone by my love on this hill top
Not a cloud in the sky it’s just you and I
It’s so quiet you’d swear the world had stopped
Let’s slip on our shoes my love and go for a walk
You know me so well my eyes they tell
You things we don’t have to talk

Ch  And do you know you are my everything
       You are my best friend
Here where birds sing I have no regrets
Let’s stay here till the sun goes down
And if it all were to end
Here where birds sing with you I say amen
Here where birds sing with you I say amen

The Hill Behind Margaret's House - copyright 2005 by Carolyn Anele

This song is symbolic of the women in my family. They’re a strong and
determined lot on both sides and I’m proud to know them all…

V.1  From the road I see Margaret she’s on her way down
A stick in one hand and the wind in her blouse
You wouldn’t know she is eighty and each day some how
Climbs the hill behind Margaret’s house

CH:  What does she see, what does she know
High on the hill in the sunshine or cold
With no... time to grow old…
On the hill behind Margaret’s house

V.2  She worked hard in her day behind horse and plough
Still grows a garden and walks into town
When she sits down for tea she remembers their vows
They made on the hill behind Margaret’s house

CH:  What does she see, what does she know
High on the hill in the sunshine or cold
With no... time to grow old…
On the hill behind Margaret’s house

Instrumental Bridge

V.3  So I climb up that hill wonderin’ what I might find
Searching for answers to the meaning of life
And there is old Margaret she sees me and smiles
And says, “tonight we’ll be dancing to the northern lights”

CH: She sees the world just as it is
She knows that happiness comes from within
With no... plans to grow old…

Yes she sees the world just as it is
She knows that happiness comes from within
With no... plans to grow old…
On the hill behind Margaret’s house
On the hill behind Margaret’s house

From the road I see Margaret she’s on her way down
A stick in one hand and the wind in her blouse

The Harbour - copyright 2001 by Carolyn Anele

God grant me the Serenity
To accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference...

If you walk down to the harbour
You will see the cross that stands
For the men and women who lost their lives
In search of a promise land
This is where you’ll find old Billy starin’ out upon the sea…
He gave all a man could give on the night of the storm
When his ship went down twenty-six had drowned
His wife never made it to shore
She cried, “I know you’ll find me Billy”, then the sea
Swept her away fifty years ago today…

You can hear a bell tolling from the harbour on the hill
When the seagulls cry their lonesome cry
For a moment life stands still
Let the sea be calm for you Billy
Won’t you come in from the rain
The tide she waits for no one, come in
Before she steals another away

If you walk up to the mountains
You will see the trees that stand
More than ten feet wide they go on for miles
One for every woman and man
This is where you'll find her Billy watching over promised land
He gave all that he could give on the night of the storm
When his ship went down she was never found
But Billy made it to shore
He won’t forgive himself for living when the sea swept
Her away fifty years ago today…

You can hear a bell tolling from the harbour on the hill
When the seagulls cry their lonesome cry
For a moment life stands still
Let the sea be calm for you Billy
Won’t you come in from the rain
The tide she waits for no one, come in
Before she steals another away

Let the sea be calm for you Billy the trees whisper in the rain…
The tide she waits for no one Billy…come in…
Before she steals another away
